Saint Patrick’s Day: Going Green

Saint Patrick's Day: Going Green

Originally, the color associated with Saint Patrick’s Day was blue, but green soon took over as the popular holiday color. Why the color green you ask? Green represents Ireland because of the emerald isle and it’s lush green landscape. Also Saint Patrick himself holds a green shamrock as a symbol to explain the trinity, which became a symbol for Irish Catholic nationalisim. In the 17th century men were meant to pick a green four-leaf clover and put it onto their lapel and women would tie green ribbons in their hair to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day.
