WIFE Movie Night: The Graduate

The Graduate

To honor legendary director, Mike Nichols, THE WIFE’s Movie Night pick is the groundbreaking hit, The Graduate. This 1967  classic is one of the key films of the late 1960s, and helped to set in motion a new era of film-making. In 1968 Nichols won the Academy Award for Best Director for the film. The influential movie is a biting satire/comedy about a recent nebbish, East Coast college graduate who finds himself alienated and adrift in the shifting, social and sexual mores of the 60s, and questioning the values of society.

The Graduate tells the story of 20-year-old Benjamin Braddock (played by a 29-year-old Dustin Hoffman), a recent college graduate with no well-defined aim in life, who is seduced by an older woman, Mrs. Robinson (a 35-year-old Anne Bancroft), and then proceeds to fall in love with her daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross).
