THE WIFE in LA: Salt & Straw

Salt and Straw

THE WIFE’s™ Favorite Ice Cream brand, Salt and Straw has finally set down roots in Los Angeles! Back in September Portland’s iconic artisan ice cream company opened their doors in Larchmont Village. Born from a love of ice cream, local food, and a passion for community, Salt & Straw creates some of the most innovative ice cream flavors in the country.

Their small batch ice cream is handmade using only all natural dairy and the best organic and sustainable ingredients from local farms and artisans as well as imported flavors from small, hand-picked farms around the world. Salt & Straw’s menu of flavors changes monthly, always featuring unconventional options as well as traditional favorites, all meant to reflect the spirit of the local food scene, farmers, artisans and producers.

The name ‘Salt & Straw’ is a nod to the heritage of making ice cream from scratch in the 18th century with pots of cream in a tin pail surrounded by salt and straw. All ice cream is handmade in Los Angeles five gallons at a time with cream sourced locally from family-owned dairy, Rockview Farms. Enjoy scoops of ice cream in cups or hand rolled cones, served with legendary hospitality.

Pop into their new store front to try the newest seasonal series showcasing uniquely local flavors for Thanksgiving: Salted Caramel Thanksgiving Turkey, Spiced Chevre Pumpkin Pie, Honey Bourbon Corn Pudding, Cranberry Walnut Stuffing and Sweet Potato Casserole with Maple Pecans.

THE WIFE™ Favorite: Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: The ultimate “yummy” ice cream. This flavor is packed with a mind-blowing explosion of salty, homemade cookie dough and malted fudge swirls. Salt & Straw 240 N. Larchmont Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004; Open: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily.
