The Artist is Present: Jay Z

Jay Z does his own take on performance art…. Taking inspiration from Marina Abramovic’s 2010 performance, “The Artist is Present.” Jay-Z took his latest single, “Picasso Baby,” singing it over an instrumental track for upwards of six hours in front of a small crowd that included Abramovic, herself.  There were no instructions, no introductions, and thus guests began to improvise. To name a few, participates included: Adam Driver, Judd Apatow, Jemima Kirke, Jena Lyons and Taraji P. Henson. “This is what happens when you put artists from different cultures into a big white room and enter an A-list hip-hop artist to perform to them. Not only perform, but connect with each one of them, breaking the boundaries and exploring a whole new territory.” says Superstar Magazine. -Taryn Cox for THE WIFE
