10 Tips for THE WIFE: Investing in Art

10 Tips for Investing in Art or, How to Become an Undercover Raider of the Art Market

Ladies (and gentlemen for the house-husbands out there). The art world might sound like a pretty glamorous place, with occasional trips to London, Miami and Switzerland the norm. And where better to show off the $10 million you just made than a Christie’s saleroom? It’s all very jet set. But let’s be honest, you can only take so many social gatherings in white cubes under supermarket lights. Museums hurt your feet. And Oscar Wilde said it: All art is quite useless! It does, however, have one redeeming defect: you can make money out of it.

Articles on art investment usually drone on with a spiel of “volatile market, don’t bank on making money,” and “just buy what you like.” Others serve up banalities like “buy low and sell high” and “diversify.” Sometimes you even get “take a recreational interest in art.” But you’ve looked at art for long enough. You want to make some money out of it! So read on for advice on making big bucks out of contemporary art. – Gabriel Butu for THE WIFE

1. Seduce a museum curator. Making money out of contemporary art is all about spotting young artists that curators like. Museum exhibitions boost artists’ careers — and prices — the most. By the time a museum show goes live however, it’s probably too late. Others will have beaten you to it. So getting the heads-up early is key. That exhibition pipeline is your ticket to smart buying decisions. So do what you have to do.

A frequent and sometimes embarrassing complaint amongst many women tends to be gas, wind and bloating, as well as IBS type symptoms, which can occur intermittently or for longer periods of time. These symptoms can arise for many reasons from stress to intolerances or even an imbalance in gut microflora, but very often just some tweaks in the diet may help. Here are some top tips to help with digestive health:

  • It sounds simple but remember to CHEW YOUR FOOD! In our hectic lives we always tend to forget this simple thing. Chewing ensures that food can be broken down effectively putting less stress on the rest of the digestive process.
  • Equally you may find that when you’re stressed your stomach is in ‘knots’. Always take some time out to sit down and eat meals, never eat on the run.

THE HUSBAND: The Difference Between a Man and a Gentleman

A man tried to make his mark and a gentleman strives to leave a mark. A man accepts a favor and a gentleman returns the favor. A man gives orders and a gentleman inspires. A man fits the mold and a gentleman tires to break the mold. The differences are many, but it all comes down to this: a man takes the necessary amount of steps and a gentleman takes the extra step.  Congratulations to all the gentlemen who took the extra step.

Tips for THE WIFE: Hall Passes

My definition of a “Hall Pass” is giving your husband a night out with the boys. Written by Rasmus Michau, a newlywed who is often granted hall passes from his wife since he certainly knows a thing or two about night life and getting friends together for a good time!

Based in Paris, Rasmus, is a social maven known for the extraordinary parties he throws. The city has become a livelier place from the official FIAC art fair Ball to Paris Largest club Cirque Paradis, where some of the world’s best DJs come to play. He has also founded events agency Hmm! ww.sayhmm.com that mainly focuses on luxury goods brands and similar creative industries and launched SayWho? www.saywho.fr, that has become Paris’ main people magazine. And his latest project BonjourBonjour is a proximity social network for smartphones that allows people to get together by saying “Bonjour” to each other. BonjourBonjour tries to recreate the sense of a party, by allowing people to socialize in their area thanks to common affinities and friends. Below Rasmus gives wives a few good reasons why it’s important to give your husband hall passes. – Taryn Cox for THE WIFE

1. A man needs to see his friends and talk sports, politics and also relationships. As going for tea with his pals isn’t very manly, he needs to do this in an environment where his friends and him are comfortable. A bar or a pool hall is usually a good place for this.

2. Getting drunk is a very good therapy. To forget about all the hassles of daily life, nothing better than a boozy night out on the town. If your man was a party animal before settling down, he will need at least one a month…
