Since Mulberry’s Spring 2012 Ready to Wear took inspiration from the British summer holiday, it seemed only fitting that the L.A. dinner in honor of the collection follow suit. Thus, last night the Chateau Marmont’s pool patio was transformed into a jolly English seaside boardwalk (as envisioned by Mulberry creative director Emma Hill) with animal balloons, floating blow-up alligators and beach balls, sculptures of giant ice cream cones, and festooned Blackpool–style lights. “My nickname is ‘More, more. Bigger, bigger,’ ” said Hill of her approach to party decor.
Despite the carnival-like surroundings, the dinner itself was a relatively low-key and casual affair that drew stylish locals like Gia Coppola, Vogue Contributing Editor Lawren Howell, Nathalie Love,Jaime King, and Jessica Joffe. Tableside Instax Mini cameras and novelty paper glasses with shades that spelled out “Oooh” kept guests occupied until the first course arrived, at which point talk turned to (no surprises here) Hollywood–sanctioned topics like holiday film releases and X Factor eliminations.

Amid the holiday party rush, Kelly Wearstler opened up her landmark Beverly Hills manse on Thursday for a 40-person Jo Malone dinner and event that drew Peggy Moffitt, Liz Goldwyn, Shiva Rose, Amanda Goldberg, Jennifer Morrison and David and Elizabeth Netto.
“I’m hoping that these dinners become a regular occurrence,” noted Estée Lauder global president John Demsey. The festive crowd moved from the flower-laden black-and-white-striped table to the living room for dessert as a DJ stationed in the marble staircase spun Eartha Kitt and Ella Fitzgerald standards.

Polo style tips for Women:
• Wear a hat and wear it proud. The bigger the better.
• Shoes need to be sensible and stylish. Go for a wedge and avoid a stiletto heel and avoid sinking into the lawn.
• Prints are your new best friend. A floral tea dress paired with a cashmere cardigan creates a great sophisticated, retro look that’s very Polo-esque.
• Dress the part: Throw on a pair of jodhpurs into your riding boots with a crisp polo shirt. Don’t be surprised if you end up on a horse, however!
• This isn’t a night club – leave the all-black wardrobe for the after-party!
Polo style tips for Men:
• Ask yourself, “What would Cary Grant wear?” Buy a grown up suit and dress to impress.
• Step out of the box and add some color to your wardrobe. An Etro print tie or pocket square with a colorful shirt exudes a bit of English-inspired eccentrics.
• It’s polo after all: When all else fails, a fresh pique polo shirt, slim flat front khakis, a cashmere pullover, and a gold Rolex will work wonders. Top it off with a fedora and aviators for a sense of mystery.
The LACMA’S $54 million dollar expansion of The Lynda and Stewart Resnick Pavilion opens to the public: October 2, 2010. The Resnick Exhibition Pavilion, designed by Renzo Piano, dramatically expands the museum’s exhibition space and unifies the western half of the museum’s twenty-acre campus.
The single-story, 45,000 square foot structure is the largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open-plan museum space in the world. This fall, it will house a trio of exhibitions that highlight both the diversity of the museum’s encyclopedic collection and the flexibility of the new building: Eye for the Sensual: Selections from the Resnick Collection; Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico; and Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915
Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915 will present a selection major collection of European men’s, women’s, and children’s garments and accessories to the public for the first time. The exhibition will tell the story of fashion’s aesthetic and technical development from the Age of Enlightenment to World War I. It will examine the sweeping changes that occurred in fashionable dress spanning a period of over two hundred years, with a fascinating look at the details of luxurious textiles, exacting tailoring techniques, and lush trimmings. Highlights will include an eighteenth-century man’s vest intricately embroidered with powerful symbolic messages relevant to the French Revolution; an evening mantle with silk embroidery, glass beads, and ostrich feathers designed by French couturier Émile Pingat (active 1860-96); and spectacular three-piece suits and gowns worn at the royal courts of Europe. The exhibition is curated by Sharon S. Takeda, Senior Curator and department head, and Kaye D. Spilker, Curator, LACMA’s Costume and Textiles department.

If you followed the trail of glitter through the Chateau Marmont Tuesday night, you found yourself magically transported to a private dinner party hosted by Mulberry. “It’s like ‘Hansel and Gretel,’ ” explained Mulberry creative directorEmma Hill of the event, which, she explained, borrowed from multiple cultural reference points, like Valley of the Dolls “and some naughty English royalty.”
To that end, Hill had the pool at the Chateau surrounded by larger-than-life (glitter-covered, of course!) leopards and hung sparkling roses from the trees. Taking in the spectacle—and Mulberry’s new fall line—were guests like Kelly Osbourne, Jessica Joffe (in a Thakoon tie-dye dress that matched the psychedelic-inspired scene perfectly), Jessica Stroup, and Nathalie Love, all of whom were given masks and Fuji instant cameras to capture the festivities. “I want delicious!” Cat Deeley called out to her tablemates, camera in hand, while Kate Bosworth (who was wearing her own Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt) fended off playful punches from Hill. “I love her,” Hill said, laughing. “I really love her!” After the dinner, the evening’s DJ, Alexa Chung, kept the night going as Teen Vogue’s Andrew Bevan danced with Gia Coppola until the wee hours of the morning. —Jessica Kantor

The town of Saint-Tropez has been a Riviera destination for Karl Lagerfeld for several years now. “More than I care to say,” he told us Monday night after a screening of his latest short film, Remember Now. Starring Elisa Sednaoui,Leigh Lezark, Heidi Mount, and Pascal Greggory, the flick glorifies the 24-hour revelry in this coastal playground for the rich and grandiose—revelry that the house of Chanel is temporarily orchestrating. The screening was just part of the festivities leading up to the French label’s resort show, which takes place tonight. The second phase of the opening night was an exciting game of bocce (don’t worry: I didn’t know what that was, either, but turns out it’s pretty similar to the game of washers or horseshoes, which this reporter played back home in St. Louis—perhaps the only similarity between Saint cities Louis and Tropez).
People weren’t messing around: “I want that trophy,” Diane Kruger cooed to boyfriend Joshua Jackson, who promptly got on the case, pep-talking his team and organizing the duels. Poor Vanessa Paradis didn’t stand a chance. “C’est impossible,” she cried out to the photographers, who would launch an explosion of flashes every time she tried to hurl down her bocces. In the championship games, which took place after a buffet dinner at Le Café on the Place des Lices, Lagerfeld himself presided over the proceedings, which turned out to be a three-way showdown between the Italians, the French, and the Americans. As it happened, Lagerfeld’s current man-muse, Baptiste Giabiconi, was rather good at the bocce. His final shot tipped the French to win the big title, a feat that apparently impressed his boss. I left at 2 a.m., a little tipsy and a lot jet-lagged—but the Kaiser was still there, betweenAmanda Harlech and his boys.
(Myself and Chelsea arrive and must have a photo with the balloons, but its just the begining of many)
I’ve always been an devoted and loyal Mulberry consumer… To date I own 4 Mulberry purses, 2 wallets and an entire set of travel luggage, and that’s not mentioning their clothing. So naturally I was delighted when an invitation turned up for their Winter dinner. On my door step arrived 2 lavender and pink Balloons attached to a cotton candy pink envelope with my name in dazzlingwriting. Already I was thrilled for such a festive and girlie evening. So on December 9th I travelled to the Chateau Marmont with my new Mulberry bag and best friend, Chelsea. The evening was hosted by Mulberry’s new creative director, Emma Hill and included all things girlie and pastel: Balloons, Bows, Candy Jars filled with sugary confections and an impromptu dance party to end the evening. Below are a few of my favorite photos. - THE WIFE

Emma Hill, the creative director of Mulberry, says she was watching The Virgin Suicides while designing the spring collection, and with all the seventies prints and nursery colors that make up the film, it’s easy to see her inspiration translated to her latest offering of clothes and accessories. On Monday night, she took those cinematic cues to the next (and decidedly more optimistic) level with a night of girlish pop, candy, and balloons at the Chateau Marmont. But despite the springtime feel inside, outside was an icy downpour, and while the wintry weather might have made the Brits feel at home, the Los Angelenos were quite relieved when the party was moved into Bungalow 1, complete with a roaring fire.
This was Hill’s first official trip to L.A. in her new role for the brand, andLiberty Ross and Laury Smith (both in black leather pants) welcomed the designer to town along with other guests like Kate Bosworth, Lily Collins, Gia Coppola, and, of course, a Mulberry-raincoat-clad French bulldog named Archie that made the rounds after dinner.
Another highlight was the Fuji cameras that served, along with pastel bouquets of flowers, as the table centerpieces. Their white design made for a chic accessory, and as the night went on, everybody tried their hand at a little amateur photography. Late-night party crashers Orlando Bloom andAlexander Skarsgard arrived after dinner to pose for Kate Bosworth, whileDJ DAniel L’amour created the perfect sound track for the festive scene.
But the proof is definitely in the pictures below.

The weather gods would seem to approve of the CFDA Awards’ new Lincoln Center venue. After an afternoon of showers, the clouds parted just in time for 60 models—20 each wearing Womenswear Designer of the Year nominees Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, and Narciso Rodriguez—to array themselves on an amphitheater outside Alice Tully Hall. “In the past, we’ve always heard that the ceremony is about fashion, but that there’s no live fashion at the ceremony,” said Council of Fashion Designers of America executive director Steven Kolb. “Well, this year, you’re going to see live fashion.” The model tableau made for a striking beginning to the evening, and the location itself—with its soaring glass reception area and theater space recently renovated by Diller Scofidio + Renfro—received its shares of oohs and aahs, too.
There were more changes to come inside. This year saw the introduction of a Popular Vote Award (won in a case of plus ça change by perpetual CFDA honoree Ralph Lauren) and the debut of Tracey Ullman as host (the comedienne had apparently turned down CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg at least twice before). Ullman’s routine had its misses, but she earned big laughs with a number about fashion’s determination to soldier on despite the sagging economy. “From the sands of Dubai to the basement of Daffy’s, we will never surrender, never,” she sang. Perhaps next year von Furstenberg could turn to another friend, Graydon Carter. The Vanity Fair editor almost stole the show when he appeared in a video introducing the Menswear Designer of the Year nominees and made fun of his own grand reputation. In another surprise, that award was then shared by two designers, Calvin Klein’s Italo Zucchelli and Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg.
As for the night’s other big prizes, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, who arrived arm in arm with Kirsten Dunst, walked off with the Womenswear Designer statuette, while Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough received the Accessories nod. That meant Marc Jacobs, who was nominated in both categories, had to content himself with the International Award. Not that that he seemed to mind. “I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said during a teary acceptance speech. “I have two amazing jobs and I work with the greatest people.” Michelle Obama, meanwhile, accepted her CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute via pretaped video. And though the First Lady couldn’t be there in person, there was plenty of star power on hand, including Justin Timberlake, who presented the Eleanor Lambert Award to GQ magazine’s Jim Moore.
If the post-show summer supper cleared out on the early side, blame it on the High Line (Calvin Klein was hosting an after-party at the just-opened new park). Well, that and the rather lackluster pasta stations, an element the organizers may want to tweak for next year. Jason Wu, who dressed Diane Kruger in a super-short red shift, was one of the last to leave. “It’s like the Oscars, and to be honest, I’m just glad it’s over,” said the Swarovski Award contender. “Now I can enjoy myself.” -Nicole Phelps for Style.Com
STELLA’S MOVIE NIGHT: What is a girl to do on a Friday Night? Well I took my Best Friend Lindsay Lucibella with me to the Outdoor screening of the Environmental Film “Home” held at Stella McCartney’s Beverly Boulevard boutique.
The back patio was transformed into a garden full of Beautiful Flowers, wooden picnic tables, Plush Pillows and blankets, Vegan Treats in adorable picnic baskets Ranging from Veggie Sandwiches from Real Food Daily, Glutten Free Cookies, Popcorn and Organic Wine.
Guests including Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler, Anjelica Huston and Charlize Theron, were treated to snack bar treats like ice cream, hot dogs and popcorn. Although the designer couldn’t make it to see the flick, which was also shown on TV on the National Geographic Channel, her friends were still full of praise.
Chloé opened up shop on Melrose Place last month, but the 2,500-square-foot space just wasn’t big enough for the blowout party the French label planned to celebrate the occasion. Last night, designer Hannah MacGibbon and Hollywood starlets like Leighton Meester, Camilla Belle, January Jones, and Zoe Saldana came together at L.A.’s cavernous Milk Studios to toast the new boutique.
Michelle Obama may have replaced her as fashion’s—make that the world’s—favorite First Lady, but the arrival of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy at Sidaction’s annual Dîner de la Mode on Thursday night still sent a frisson of excitement through Paris’ Pavillon d’Armenonville. The appearance of her husband, President Sarkozy, brought a crowd that included Olivier Theyskens, Giambattista Valli, Diane Kruger, Vanessa Paradis, and Laetitia Casta to its feet. “Few times have I been able to actually feel the glamour in a room,” sighed Milla Jovovich, who was sitting with Elie Saab. “But this was one of them.”
Once France’s First Family was seated, the night’s program began with a toast from chairman Pierre Bergé, in which he celebrated Bruni-Sarkozy as “an incredible woman who has agreed to be a part of this incredible organization.” Bruni-Sarkozy herself came next, taking the stage in a slinky strapless Yves Saint Laurent dress and whispering about how important the fight against AIDS is to her personally, particularly because her own brother passed away in 2006 from the disease. Two more speeches followed, including one by MAC president John Demsey.
Naturally, the fashion flock spent the better part of the evening in the smoking lounge. “Who eats at these things, anyway?” Lou Doillon asked, as she mingled among the likes of Lara Stone, Sasha Pivovarova, Olivier Zahm, and Dita Von Teese. The night’s real fun, in fact, was a silent auction in which €300 bought you a bundle of envelopes in which one chit for a corresponding prize was hidden. Long after most guests had filed into a nearby club for an official after-party, Christian Lacroix was still on the paper chase, insisting he wouldn’t leave until he found a winning ticket. But then, at a charity gala like this one, isn’t everybody a winner?
Here is the Music Player. You need to installl flash player to show this cool thing!
