The Well Accessorized WIFE: Hoorsenbuhs

Hoorsenbuhs Tri Link Diamond Ring

Any true Fashionista owns or is familiar with Hoorsenbuhs famed tri link chain jewelry. Hoorsenbuhs, Pronounced (HORS-en-boose) was established in 2005 and named after a 16th century Dutch ship that traded precious metal and gems. Hoorsenbuhs has since grown organically into one of the most sought after luxury jewelry brands.

I recently sat down with Robert Keith, the creator and designer of Hoorsenbuhs, at his Santa Monica Atelier. We spoke about Hoosenbuhs newest venture into bridal and how the husband and father of two keeps the spark alive with dinner dates at Sushi Roku with his wife and why cooking is an essential asset in any marriage.

It only makes sense that Hoorsenbuhs next step would fall into a bridal line since the notable tri link chain represents strength, quality and opulence… Fingers crossed what all marriages strive to be made up of.

The classic and timeless collection will range from engagement rings to wedding bands for men and women. The company has stepped it up by bringing something exciting to the table for men, since wedding bands can be so boring to shop for.

Brides and Grooms will be able to choose from ready made rings or completely bespoke bands that will be customizable for  the client who wants to get a little more creative. Hoorsenbuhs is actually the number one bespoke company sold at Barney’s. Robert goes on to tell me, “Everything we do is customizable or bespoke. People always have the opportunity to participate in their creation. Every piece a customer sees in store is available in your choice of metal and diamond color. For the bridal collection they can choose from what size diamond to different pave patterns around the crown and or around the band.” Just make sure you give them 3 -4 weeks to transform your one of a kind ring.

Robert’s design inspiration falls close to that of Thomas Edison, “I find inspiration from some of the mistakes I make, messing around with wax and some of the jewelry pieces that break, I try to put them back together. I keep finding new challenging ways to work with the dynamic of the makers mark.” Although the piece he’s most proud of is the success of the Phantom Ring. Robert even took the time to discover his own color of gold, “I would describe it as a deep rich royal yellow preferably in 18 carat gold, but 22 carat is available if requested.”

What puts the cherry on top of the sundae for Hoorsenbuhs, is that they are also an ethically responsible company. All the diamonds that Hoorsenbuhs use to create their astounding pieces are made from conflict free and traceable Forevermark diamonds. The luxury label also sources all their gold from a reclaimed gold company. So you can rest easy with a clear conscious with every piece you invest in.

Robert Keith himself  has been happily married for 10 years and the father of two children. To be married for a decade in Los Angeles is something to be proud of, so I of course had to ask what has he learned from his marriage so far. His answer delighted me, “That matrimony and bliss are actually possible. That a man and woman can actually co exist peacefully.”

Robert comes across dozens of couples in his line of work, so I was curious to know what his advice was for future husbands, He responded, “When in doubt take a walk before reacting in a heated fight with your wife.” And for future brides, “Be kind, compassionate and learn how to cook.” He further explains, “Find balance in being kind to your husband and being compassionate to all of his little intricate behaviors that either please or annoy you.” And as for cooking, “You could be in the biggest fight, right or wrong and if either party cooked a nice meal, put aside your differences, sat down and ate, chances are you will have made up before the meal is done.” Robert himself takes pride in with his sauteing skills in the kitchen.

For those men who are already married and seeking an anniversary or Valentine’s Day gift idea, Robert recommends the Hoorsenbuhs Forevermark Diamond Stud Earrings. Which left me with my last question for the charming Jeweler, What is the best gift you’ve given your wife? With a giant smile on his face He said “A plate I painted at Color Me Mine of a monkey with a banana. I gave it to my Wife when I first met her and she still has and uses it.”
